Hi All!
Thanks for reading my substack!
I wanted to post my first "real" article today but realized that what I have been working on is more difficult than I initially thought. So, for today, I want to post something that some may regard as more personal. I hope that by doing so, you will better understand where I am coming from.
It is motivated by the developments in Davos, specifically the push to combat “mis- and disinformation.”
I want to remind those who think that free speech and independent thinking are a threat to democracy, that this goes against some foundational spiritual Principles.
I love what one of my most favorite spiritual teachers, Baird Spalding, has to say:
"Humanity knows that they must have truth, and they must experience truth for themselves within their hearts of hearts."
Likewise, according to the Scriptures:
“And I tell you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.” (Luk 11:9-10)
That seeking our own truth must not be a stick-and-carrot approach or mean to follow the crows follows from a saying attributed to Jesus (which may also explain why self-declared elites are pushing against this God-principle):
“He who seeks, let him not cease seeking until: finds; and when he finds he will be troubled, and if he is troubled, he will be amazed, and he will reign over the All.”
The Preacher in the OT doubled down on the divine Principle that some are trying to uproot:
“The beginning of wisdom is: Acquire wisdom; And with all your acquiring, acquire understanding.” (Pro 4:7)
And finally, when asked whether political leaders understand truth(s), Spalding offers an interesting suggestion that I pray many will realize very soon:
“That I cannot say. But (our) politics are not going to keep them [the truths] away. When our political situation becomes a failure, we rise above it. Jesus said that every man was king. If we stand in that attitude, politics fall right into line. We are not a flock of sheep. We do not need to follow.”
