Thank you. Sadly, it is not only about humans. This concern may drastically escalate when animal and wild-life "vaccines," i.e. gene therapies, are rolled out at scale. People need to be made aware of this. We have seen many important discussions on GMOs, mostly for their agricultural use. People do not like not knowing what they are consuming. But here, if you inject whoever with gene therapy carrying synthetically stabilized genetic material, biological activities will be spread throughout the biosphere. We have natural carriers that can disseminate the synthetic payload between animals, for example, via excretions, they can be transmitted to plants, and then you may have insects further carrying it on. What are the effects of synthetic genes of various forms, including short RNAs or DNA fragments that may even have some promoters intact? We don't know what the effects may be because this has not been studied. But we cannot say there will not be any effects at all, especially considering the scale of the products, their wastage, or dissemination via several possible biological pathways. In short, all this needs to be clearly and rigorously openly discussed at all levels (scientists, lawmakers, politicians,....). After all, many jurisdictions DO have regulations in place about gene therapy in the open environment.
Yes, totally agree. The term is very misleading. If it was not so tragic, I would love the way you depict MODeRNA's company name. In the article, I make it clear that it is gene therapy. And I do discuss the issues with the modified RNA, including the N1-methylpseudourudine, and all the unnatural and unintended stuff that is degradation resistant. Also agree - the stuff gets excreted via feces, urine, etc and WILL go everywhere. That is one of my main concerns about the environmental issues. Sadly, we DO know some of the consequences - and to whom/what (potentially the entire biosephere). The disaster could get worse with further human and animal injections and other scary things done at scale (when the wildlife and OneHealth are hijacked).

Pfizer's original regulátory submission documents read "modRNA" and the innovation or problem is touched in the other company's name: MODeRNA!
